New here?
Meet Wizer (rhymes with wiser—because he kinda is).
He’s the wise and whimsical ambassador of Rays of Light Productions,
and he drops in now and then with a quote, a nudge, or a little perspective—Wizer style.
“Wizer here, popping in with a gentle reminder… apparently changing people’s lives doesn’t require a cape! Sometimes it starts with one person extending a hand to lift up another — and somehow, it’s the beginning that changes everything.” ✨
Let me introduce you to a woman many people haven’t heard of —
but whose idea has quietly changed millions of lives.
Her name is Jessica Jackley, and she is the co-founder of Kiva, the world’s first person-to-person micro-lending platform.
Jessica didn’t set out to “fix poverty.”
She questioned the story we tell about it.
💛 A Different Way of Seeing
Before Kiva existed, Jessica spent time listening to entrepreneurs in places like East Africa — people who were resourceful, intelligent, and deeply motivated, yet completely shut out of traditional financial systems.
What she noticed wasn’t helplessness.
It was potential without access.
As Jessica shared in her TED Talk:
“When I first heard stories about the poor, the narratives I knew were about sadness and suffering — until I met people whose lives were defined by strength, intelligence, and agency.”
That moment changed everything.
🌱 The Idea That Became Kiva
Instead of asking, “How do we give more aid?”
Jessica asked a radically different question:
What if people could lend directly to other people — as partners, not saviors?
Kiva was born from that simple idea.
Through Kiva, anyone can lend as little as $25 to an entrepreneur somewhere in the world — a farmer, a shop owner, an artisan, a parent building a livelihood.
Not charity.
Connection.

Jessica explains it this way:
“Kiva was born out of a very simple desire… to connect people here with new friends we were meeting as entrepreneurs with different stories to tell.”🌍 Small Loans. Massive Ripples.
Since Kiva began:
millions of people have participated as lenders
loans have reached communities across the globe
a large percentage of borrowers are women
families, education, and local economies have been strengthened
But the real magic isn’t the numbers.
It’s the reframing of worth.
As she says:
“The stories we tell about each other matter very much… the way we participate in each other’s stories is of deep importance.”
That one sentence alone feels like a New Earth manifesto.🧠 Dignity Over Charity
Kiva’s model quietly dismantles an old narrative:
that people in poverty need saving.Instead, it affirms something far more powerful:
people need opportunity.Or as Jessica puts it:
“Microfinance provides financial services tailored to the needs of the poor… allowing them to become entrepreneurs and improve their lives.”
No fixing.
No rescuing.
Just access — and respect.✨ Why This Matters (Right Now)Jessica Jackley’s story reminds us that:
change doesn’t have to be massive to be meaningful
money can be a bridge, not a weapon
generosity works best when paired with trust
believing in someone is often more powerful than giving to them
And maybe most importantly:
“You really don’t need to wait to get started…
just start with whatever you have in front of you.”That applies to all of us.
🌱 Inspiring the Light, One Person at a Time
Jessica didn’t try to change everything.
She changed how we relate. And from that shift, a global movement emerged.
Sometimes the light doesn’t arrive as a grand solution.
Sometimes it arrives as:
$25
a story
a shared belief
and one human saying to another, “I see you.”
Wizer:
”The world doesn’t need more heroes in capes. It needs more people
holding the ladder
while someone else climbs.”
When one person is given the opportunity to rise, the impact rarely stops with them. It lifts families, strengthens communities, and reaches generations still to come. Jessica Jackley and Kiva remind us that uplifting one person creates a ripple far beyond a single moment—proof that opportunity, once shared, becomes a legacy.
If you’re feeling inspired, take a moment to explore Kiva for yourself.
Browse the stories, meet the people, and see the dreams currently seeking a little lift -
and perhaps notice which story tugs at your heart.
Sometimes all it takes is a small opening to start something meaningful.
This song, $25 and a Dream, was inspired by the spirit of Kiva—
where belief turns into opportunity, and opportunity turns into momentum.
Take a breath, press play, and let the inspiration carry you. 🎧
